Chittagong, 22nd 2015: East Bengal confirmed their semifinal berth in ongoing 2015 Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup, with a resounding 3-1 win over Karachi Electric FC at M.A. Aziz Stadium on Thursday.
Orok Orok Eassien (15′), Mohammed Rafique (25′) and Ranti Martins (49′) on target for East Bengal, which saw them through to the knock-out stage with a game left to play. Muhammad Rasool (84′) reduced the margin for the Pakistani side.
East Bengal started without their star performer Do Dong-hyun, who yet to recover from the injury that he picked two nights ago against Chittagong Abahani.
Orok Orok Essien filled for the Korean, and the Nigerian made a dream debut in East Bengal colors by scoring in the 15th minute through a Avinash Ruidas cross from left.
The Pakistan ouftit tried their level best to contain relentless East Bengal attacks, but could not prevent Muhammad Rafique from scoring the second for East Bengal from Prohlad Roy’s pass in the 25th minute.
The scoreline read 2-0 in favour of East Bengal at half-time.
Karachi Electric started the second-half positively, and thought themselves on level three minute into the half when they netted one, but the assistant referee flagged for offside.
Only a minute later, East Bengal added their third when Orok laid a ball for Ranti Martins, and the striker make no mistake in slotting the ball home, to take the game completely away from Karachi Electric’s reach.
However, the Pakistan Premier League champions did get some late consolation when Muhammad Rasool scored in the 84th minute.
Meanwhile, Chittagong Abahani edge Dhaka Abahani 1-0 in other Group – B fixture played later on the evening at the same venue.
The all important goal came through Mohammed Zahid Hossain in the 47th minute, which turned to be the difference between two Abahanis.
