Chittagong, 25 October 2015: De Spinghar Bazan FC and Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club advanced to the semi-finals of Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup after beating Solid SC and Kolkata Mohammedan Sporting Club respectively on Sunday.
In the penultimate match of Group – A at M.A. Aziz Stadium, Afghanistan’s De Spinghar Bazan FC beat Sri Lanka’s Solid SC 3-1 to emerge group champions with 7 points.
The Afghan side went into the match as clear favourites to win but instade made a trembling start and saw themselves behind at interval, courtesy a 43rd minute strike from Afis Olayemi Shola.
De Spinghar Bazan FC fought their way back in the second-half and especially in last twenty minutes of the game, during that periord the Afghan champions added three goals in just sixten minutes through Mustak Afshar (72′), Reza Allah Yari (78′) and Ghulam Hazrat Niazi (88′) to complete the win, which they made difficult for themselves after playing some lacklustre football in first-half.
Meanwhile, in the later match of the evening, Dhaka got the better of Kolkata 2-1 in the clash of Mohammedan Sporting Clubs.
In a must win fixture, Kolkata Mohammedan found themselves behind just after eleven minutes when Akinyele Peter headed the Dhaka Mohammedan ahead. However, just before the half-time Kolkata Mohammedan responded through Kazeem Amobi in the 44th minute. But it was Peter again who netted the winner for the Dhaka outfit in the additional time of second-half to see his team through to the semi-finals as runners-up of Group – A.
In the first semi-final De Spinghar Bazan FC will take on Chittagong Abahani on October 27, while Dhaka Mohammedan will entertain East Bengal in the second semi-final on October 28.
