Chittagong, Bangladesh: The hosts Chittagong Abahani Limited made their way into the final of Sheikh Kamal International Club Championship 2015, after beating De Spinghar Bazan FC 3-1 in the first semi-final played at M.A. Aziz Stadium on Tuesday.
A goal from Yoko Steve Thomas, followed by second half brace through Eleta Kingsley were enough to earn a rather comforatable victory for the home side, with Sayed Mohammed Hashmi claiming a consolation goal for the visitors.
The match started with a minute’s silence odserved in memory of those who lost their lives in devastating earthquake in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
After making a steady start of the game, known as the sky-yellow brigade Chittagong Abahani surged ahead in the 24th minute, when the Cameroonian forward Yoko Steve Thomas headed home from a Mohamed Zahid Hossain corner. Kingsley also had a key role in the move, as he was the one who set up from the corner for Yoko to head.
Changing over, Bazan FC pressed hard for the qualisier and looked promising with Anwar Akbari and Reza Allah Yari upfront, but the Abahani defense stood firm and did not allowed anything to the visitors in front of their goal.
The Afghan side saw all their efforts were in vain when Kingsley doubled the lead for the home side in the 58th minute. This time it was Yoko’s turn to return the favour, as he sent in a defense splitting pass for Kingsley, which was slotted into the far-post by the Nigerian.
However, Bazan FC did succeed to pull a goal back in the 79th minute through Sayed Mohammed Hashmi. But it was too little, too late to save the day for the visiotors as Chittagong Abahani added the third through Kingsley in the 89th to sum up the game in style.
Chittagong Abahani will face the winner of second semi-final between Dhaka Mohammedan an East Bengal on October 30 in the summit clash.
