Kolkata: East Bengal lost 1-0 to Royal Wahingdoh to suffer their third straight defeat in the final round of ongoing U18 I-League, here on Sunday morning
The visitors won via a late goal from defender Narayan Chettri in the Group-B encounter played at the East Bengal Ground.
Both the teams started well and shared honours in the first half as they could not penetrate each other’s defence.
It was the visitors who had a first chance of the game in the 11th minute but Lalmuanzuala’s shot went straight into the hands of rival keeper Amit Biswas.
East Begal, on other hand, created couple of chances with captain Budhwa Bara and Achinta Ghosh directing their shots on target, but Royal Wahingdoh Nimdup Lepcha was equal to the task.
However, East Bengal suffered a huge setback seven minutes before the interval when Budhwa was forced to leave the field having suffered an ankle injury.
Changing over, both teams pressed hard to score the elusive goal but it was Royal Wahingdoh who was more clinical infront of goal.
In the 80th minute, defender Narayan Chettri found the net with a strong header off a corner from left.
East Bengal now plays Pune FC in their last game on 4th February, while Royal Wahingdoh will face the same opponent on 2nd February.
