KOLKATA: Kolkata giants East Bengal kept at their pre-season shopping, adding defender Salam Ranjan Singh and winger Gabriel Fernandes to the club roster ahead of the 2017/18 Calcutta Football League.
Ranjan, a product of Pune FC youth system, was part of the Pune FC side that won consecutive U-20 I-League titles in 2012 and 2013. The 21-year-old made his first team debut for Pune in 2013 and stayed till 2015 before moving to Bengaluru FC. Ranjan has also turned out for NorthEast United FC in the third season of Indian Super League (ISL).
Furthermore, Ranjan has represented India in the under-23 age group in 2016 South Asian Games.
Gabriel, on the other hand, has previously played for leading clubs in the I-League such as Sporting Clube de Goa, Mumbai FC, Dempo SC, Pune FC, Salgaocar FC and Churchill Brothers.
The 29-year-old also has the experience of playing ISL for FC Goa and Mumbai City FC, and his addition to East Bengal will give coach Khalid Jamil, who coached Gabriel in Mumbai, some experience and pace in attack.
Meanwhile, veteran goalkeeper Luis Barreto has signed the extension at East Bengal.
