GOA: FC Goa have reportedly set their sights on much travelled Iranian midfielder Masoud Shojaei as a possible replacement for Spanish winger Manuel Lanzarote, who has joined ATK last month.
Shojaei, who is only Iranian to play three World Cup finals, has captained his national team against Morocco in group stage of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. Shojaei’s contract with Greek Super League champions AEK Athens has recently expired and he is expected to join a new club within a few days.
Although the 34-year-old, who played for famous Spanish club Osasuna from 2008 to 2012, has been also linked with Greek Super League side Apollon Smyrnis and Iranian Premier League club Nassaji Mazandaran, but his previous association with FC Goa coach Sergio Lobera may work in the favour of the Gaurs. Shojaei has played under Lobera at Spanish club Las Palmas in 2014.
