KOLKATA: Sankarlal Chakraborty is wary of East Bengal technical director Subhash Bhowmick‚ who thrives on challenges‚ so says the Mohun Bagan coach ahead of the Kolkata derby on Sunday.
Mohun Bagan‚ on a high after three wins in a row and 7 league games without a defeat‚ meet East Bengal at Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan.
Chakraborty‚ once Bhowmick’s assistant at Mohun Bagan‚ said the veteran coach has the ability to keep calm and come up with a plan to get results facing tough situations.
According to Chakraborty certain people thrive on challenges. “There are some people who love to face challenges. The more you throw at them‚ the sharper they get. Subhash Bhowmick is that kind of bread,” he said.
The Bagan gaffer cut a relaxed figure readily engaging with the media present after team’s training session at Mohun Bagan ground this morning.
Undoubtedly, being at the helm at Mohun Bagan carries certain pressures naturally and a burden of expectation in every match but Chakraborty believes he needs to embrace the pressure.
“To me pressure is something that I am used to. If you are a coach then you must know how to deal with it,” he explained.
Nonetheless, Chakraborty has made it clear that they set their sights on winning the match.
“The focus is to win this game. This is a new game, new challenges and there’s different demands. East Bengal is a very strong and organized team. They are very strong defensively and got many talented players but we have confidence in our ability to win against them,” he concluded.
