CFL 2018/19: Battle of World Cuppers on the card as East Bengal face Peerless2 min read
KOLKATA: East Bengal look to get back to the winning ways when they face Peerless Sports Club in an important Calcutta Premier Division ‘A’ clash on Thursday at East Bengal ground.
Having won five matches in a row, Bastob Roy’s charges played out a 2-2 draw against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in the Kolkata derby on Sunday.
East Bengal are currently second on the log standings with 20 points from 8 matches and they would surely want to go level with Mohun Bagan who are leading the standings with 23 points.
Peerless, on the other hand, coming into match on the back off a 1-0 defeat against Pathachakra Club and they are at third position with 13 points from 7 matches.
Biswajit Bhattacharya’s men might not got the result in their last match but they looked pretty decent in the defeat, and Roy has also expressed that their opponents Peerless can proved to be a very tricky side to play with and will definitely test their patience in order to register a win.
“Peerless is a good side, I have seen them play. It won’t be an easy match for us and we are not taking them lightly as they have played quite good in their last matches. We know what they can do having people like Anthony Wolfe and Ansumana Kromah in the team.” Roy said.
Roy has also heaped praise on Peerless coach Biswajit Bhattacharya and expecting a stern test against them.
“I know him (Biswajit Bhattacharya) since long and he is one of the best coaches in country. I have lot of respect for him. It will be a tough encounter but we are confident that if we play to our strengths, we can come away with all three points,” he added.
A subplot for this fixture features East Bengal’s Johny Acosta and Peerless’ Anthony Wolfe as the Calcutta Football League is set to witness the battle of two World-Cuppers for the first time in history.
