Two second half goals from defending champions Chhinga Veng FC were enough to stop newcomers Electric Veng FC’s unbeaten run in their debut campaign as they sealed a 2-1 victory.
Chhinga Veng FC’s victory means that they are on a 23 match unbeaten run this season, which is one better than the record they set last season.
Electric Veng FC had taken a first half lead in the 24th minute through Isaak Vanlalpeka’n freekick against the run of play.
Chhinga Veng FC were the slightly better team in an even match up in the early stages as they rattled the post through Jacob Lalrawngbawla but Electric Veng FC closed out the first 45 minutes on a more positive note, with Vanlalremsanga coming close to adding on their lead.
It was one-way traffic in the second half though as the champions applied relentless pressure right from the off.
They got their reward after three minutes when substitute Lalrammawia guided home an aerial scramble after a corner delivery from Jacob Lalrawngbawla. They struck again six minutes later through MS Dawngliana, who was played onside by Zomuanpuia in another scramble inside the box.
The onslaught continued with Jacob Lalrawngbawla testing the Electric Veng FC custodian Nunga Hnamte while Sawmzela and MS Dawngliana could not guide their efforts into the net.
