Mohammedan through to I-Day Cup semis as BSF, Morning Star play out goalless

NAGAON, ASSAM: A hotly contested game with substantial chances for both teams, the Group A clash in 70th Independence Day Cup in Nagaon, Assam between the BSF Jalandhar and K.A Morning Star Club finished in a stalemate at Nurul Amin Stadium on Monday.

BSF took control early on but failed to turn possession and chances into goals. Gupreet Singh and Ramakanta Hembram were troublesome for the Morning Star fullbacks with their speedy runs on the flanks. Along with striker Jitinder Rawat, the three managed to create plenty of chances and attempted many shots between them through the course of the match.

The Morning Star defence managed to hold its own and came back after half-time a renewed side. The local outfit created several chances in the second-half, with striker Lachit Bora coming close to getting his side ahead.

Morning Star coach Horen Engti introduced former East Bengal striker Abel Hammond in the 75th minute in a bid to get a late winner, but it proved too little too late as they two sides played to a goalless stalemate.

The result did a favour to Mohammedan Sporting Club who qualified for the semifinal with a game in hand thanks to their 1-0 win against Morning Star Club last weekend.
