FC Goa script easy win over Signals in Goa Professional League

PANJIM: Defending Champions FC Goa scripted a fluent 3-0 win to inflict second defeat on Corps of Signals in the Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday.

Lalawmpuia (12’), Leander D’Cunha (17’) and Aaren Silva (64’) scored a goal each for the Young Gaurs.

FC Goa playing their first league game showed good team spirit from the word go maintaining possession play. Signals at the other end had a disastrous start as they were reduced to 10 men in the 9th minute when their goalkeeper Vikramjit Singh was shown a straight red for bringing down FC Goa’s Lalawmpuia in the box.

The striker himself stepped up to the penalty and kept his composure his slotting home to make it 1-0.

FC Goa scored their second in the 17th minute when Signals’s keeper Binu Purushothaman failed to cleanly collect a Hayden Fernandes free-kick, which rolled to Flan Gomes and the lad played the ball to Leander who was at the face of the goal. Leander scored with a simple flick to make it 2-0. The winners led 2-0 at the break.

Playing with 10 men was always going to be difficult for Signals against the champions. FC Goa scored their third at the hour mark through in-form striker Aaren Silva who gave finishing touch to Flan Gomes’s effort.
