PANJIM: Sesa Football Academy put up a brave fight to hold FC Goa to a 1-1 draw in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Friday.
Sesa’s Richard Cardozo was outstanding for the newly promoted side and scored the equalising goal in the 67th minute to cancel Hayden Fernandes’ 50th minute strike.
Sesa FA dominated the initial period and created plenty of chances. Laishram, Olvin, Ben –all missed chances to put Sesa FA ahead in the game.
Sesa should have scored just before the breather when Domnic Soares tried his luck from a distance but it was saved by Gaurs keeper Antonio.
Earlier FC Goa created a chance when Lalawmpuia tested the keeper with a long shot before Kapil’s effort hit the cross bar.
Sesa’s Melwin Lobo missed an open header off a Visnu Gosawi’s corner FC Goa scored in the second half through Hayden Fernandes when he capitalised on a Sesa FA defender’s clearances and took a first time shot which gave no chance for the rival keeper, 1-0.
SFA made a quick substitution as Kunal Salgaonkar was brought on and Ben was substituted off.
Sesa FA’s hard work paid off when Richard levelled the score after a cross from Vishnu met his feet and the former shot right past the keeper in the 67th minute.
The last quarter of the game was filled with both teams creating chances and giving away freekicks in dangerous positions. However, none of the teams were able to materialize and both teams shared a point each.
