KALYANI: Mohammedan Sporting Club showed complete dominance in their convincing 4-0 Hero 2nd Division League thrashing over out of sorts Chennaiyin FC Reserves at Kalyani Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
With this victory, the Black Panthers remained on top of Group B with 9 points from 3 matches.
Mohammedan SC went to half-time with a slender lead of 1-0 from the effort of Sanjib Ghosh (45′) but they were ruthless after the break with three more goals courtesy John Chidi (59′), Balwinder Singh (67′) and Jaskaranpreet Singh (87′).
Going into the match Mohammedan SC coach Saheed Ramon made two changes to the side by handing starts to Hira Mondal and Jiten Mumru at the expense of Sujit Sadhu and Firoj Ali.
It took Mohammedan SC until the last minute of the first-half to take the lead when unmarked Sanjib latched onto a long ball over the back-line and fired it past an approaching Chennaiyin custodian Joel Aju to give his side the lead.
Before the goal, the Black Panthers fans were left frustrated as the likes of Chidi, Vanlalbiaa Chhangte and Satyam Sharma had wasted numerous good scoring chances.
On numerous moments in the game, they left Chennaiyin off the hook as they went for wrong options or they were denied by alert visiting goalkeeper Joel Aju who pulled some good saves.
It was not only Mohammedan SC who provided some good attacking moments in the game as Chennaiyin also threatened with the likes of Joseph Britto and Sameer Kashyap.
During the break, Saheed Ramon could have expressed his disapproval in the manner they wasted their chances but they recovered in ruthless fashion to put Chennaiyin to the sword.
Carnage started after 59 minutes when Chidi tapped home after a goalmouth scramble to increase the Black Panthers’ lead.
Mohammedan SC put matters beyond doubt in the 67th minute when Balwinder took advantage of the visitors’ brittle defence to head home from a Tirthankar Sarkar corner to make it 3-0.
Then, substitute Jaskaranpreet joined the scoring party in the 87th minute when he managed to lose his marker before sending a powerful shot past Joel to put the final nail in Chennaiyin’s coffin.
The Black Panthers will face Hyderabad FC Reserves next at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on February 26.
