KOLKATA: Fran Gonzalez is ‘The Boss’ to Mohun Bagan fans. He was one of the key figures behind the Mariners second I-League title. But this 31-year-old footballer is getting neglected by Bagan officials in recent times.
Ahead of the 2019/20 season Mohun Bagan signed a two-year contract with Gonzalez, and still one more year left in that contract. But despite the contract, Bagan officials have stopped communicating with Gonzalez, who scored 10 goals in I-League last season.
Mohun Bagan merged with ATK, and as a result a new entity ATK-Mohun Bagan FC will play ISL this season. They have almost finished signings for the new season. Eight foreign players have already been confirmed. Thus Bagan officials have stopped contacting Gonzalez. The Spanish midfielder, dissatisfied with this behavior, and has exploded in social media.
“Hello my dear mariners! I hope this message finds you well! As you already know I have another season contract but unfortunately I still haven’t received any news from the club about the beginning of the training. They are not even replying to my lawyer’s messages. Sad to see how they already forgot who i am and what i did for them last season… what about you? Do you still remember me?” Gonzalez wrote in a facebook post.
Gonzalez knows that ATK-Mohun Bagan has already met their foreign quota. He said if he is not to be included in the squad then the club must compensate him.
