Bhubaneshwar: Odisha Football Club on Wednesday have completed the signing of former English Premier League (EPL) defender Steven Taylor ahead of the seventh season of the Indian Super League (ISL). The center back has signed a one-year contract and has the option to extend it to another year.
Taylor made his professional career with famous English club Newcastle United in 2003–04 season. From there, he went on to make 195 Premier League appearances, chipping in with 12 goals.
The 34-year-old moved to Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers in 2016 after playing the Premier League for more than a decade. He also captained New Zealand’s Wellington Phoenix FC which participates in the Australian A League.
Steven Taylor expressed delight after singing for Odisha FC and said: “I am extremely delighted to join Odisha FC and am hopeful that my experience and leadership qualities will be helpful for the team. I hope I can help the lads push on and in turn egg the team on towards the playfoff spots. I am looking forward to create something special at Odisha, make no mistake about it.”
