KOLKATA: SC East Bengal have signed Slovenian midfielder Amir Dervišević, their first foreign signing for the forthcoming season of Indian Super League, on a season long deal. The club announced via twitter.
Amir made his senior national team debut for Slovenia in 2018 and went on to play 6 matches. This will be the first time when Amir is moving out of his native country and is now set for his maiden ISL campaign.
“I have heard about the derby in this part of the world. It is massive and one that I am looking forward to. I have been part of the biggest derby in Slovenia for so many years. I know the sentiment and what it means to the fans,” said Amir.
The 29-year-old began his professional career in 2010 with IB 1975 Ljubljana in the Slovenian second-tier league. He is more famous for his time in NK Maribor. where he won Slovenian PrvaLiga thrice, Slovenian Super Cup twice and Slovenian Cup once. In a career spanning over a decade, the attacking midfielder has 200-plus club appearances. In 2014-15, Amir featured in the five Europa League matches for NK Maribor.
After forming a good enough domestic squad in a short period time, now the SC East Bengal is focused on making good overseas signings, that will add value to the squad.
