1 min read

Kolkata: Heavy rain across parts of Kolkata and neighbouring areas of North and South 24 Paraganas, has led to several football matches being cancelled.

The Calcutta Football League match between Bhwanipore FC and Southern Samity at Naihati Stadium was postponed after heavy rain since this morning left large areas of the pitch unplayable.

In Durand Cup, the Group A game between Indian Air Force and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and both teams were awarded a point each.

Heavy rains triggered by a depression in Bay of Bengal caused major traffic disruptions in Kolkata, bringing normal life to a halt in the city and adjoining districts of West Bengal.

Officials at the Regional Meteorological Centre said the depression was likely to intensify over next 24 hours bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kolkata and adjoining districts.
