Chullova set to leave East Bengal for Chennaiyin

KOLKATA: Former two-time Indian Super League (ISL) champions Chennaiyin FC have reportedly signed defender Lalramchullova from East Bengal on a free transfer.

According to the informant, both Chennaiyin and Chullova have reached a deal in principle, with the announcement set to be made once the 24-year-old puts pen to paper, as East Bengal have failed to convince him to extend his stay at the club.

East Bengal now find themselves in an unenviable position where they will have to rebuild, having already lost another key player in Jobby Justin, who left for another ISL side ATK on a free transfer couple of days back.

Chullova has been in East Bengal since May 2017, moving there from Aizawl FC, whom he helped bag the famous I-League title in 2016/17 season.

He played a vital part of the East Bengal team that finished 4th in the 2017/18 I-League season and then also helped the side to reach the final of the inaugural Super Cup in 2018 where they lost to Bengaluru FC.

ATK Announces the pre-contract signing of Jobby Justin for three years

ATK began the second edition of the Hero Super Cup with a comfortable win 3-1 win over Real Kashmir FC. The match saw Balwant Singh, Lanzarote and Everton Santos finding the back of the net as they booked their place in the Quarterfinals of the Hero Super Cup 2019.

Mohammedan SC sign former Gokulam Kerala striker

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club have bolstered their attack for the ongoing 2018/19 2nd Division League with the signing of Ivorian striker Desmos Arthur Kouassi, IndiaFooty can confirm.

The Black Panthers, who have only a point from three matches, were running thin on attacking options despite the presence of Philip Adjah, and they have decided to strengthen their options further by bringing on board another foreign striker as they are looking for someone who can compliment Adjah.

In 2012, Kouassi began his career with Shenzhen, before moving to Citizen AA for the 2013 season. After leaving Hong Kong, Kouassi spent three seasons in the Philippines with Manila Jeepney and Global FC. During his time with Global FC, they reached the 2016 UFL Cup final, where they lost 3-1 to Ceres. After leaving Global FC, Kouassi scored six goals in thirteen games for Chin United in the Myanmar National League during the first half of 2017. In the second half of 2017, Kouassi joined Ilocos United, scoring eleven goals in twenty games before leaving in early 2018. On 4 April 2018, Ulaanbaatar City FC announced the signing of Kouassi.

Kouassi has also turned out for Gokulam Kerala FC in the current edition of I-League, before they released him after an alleged conflict with the management.

Bengaluru FC rope in Spanish attacking midfielder

Bengaluru: Bengaluru FC, on Thursday announced that they have secured the services of Spanish midfielder Luis Manuel Villa, more commonly known as ‘Luisma’, on a deal that runs until the end of the 2018-19 campaign. The 29-year-old has been added to the squad ahead of the Indian Super League registration deadline of January 31, as a replacement for Bhutanese winger Chencho Gyeltshen, who completed his loan move to NEROCA FC earlier.

Luisma, a product of the Racing Santander youth setup, made several appearances with the Santander B side before making his La Liga debut with the Green and White in 2007. Spells at Segunda Division B sides would then follow representing Real Union and Deportivo Alaves among other clubs.

“I am very happy to have signed for Bengaluru FC, and I can’t wait to start playing for the club. I’m eager to meet my new teammates and to play my part in the rest of the season. I know that BFC is a club that wins trophies and I want to help them do that,” Luisma said after putting pen to paper.

Luisma made the move to England in 2013, when he joined the then Conference Premier side Barnet, scoring 17 goals across two seasons. The Spaniard returned to Spain in 2015, joining Arenas Club de Getxo, before a short spell at SD Ponferradina last season.

Head Coach Carles Cuadrat expressed his delight at the signing of Luisma. “We are very happy to bring Luisma into the squad. Going into a crucial part of the season, where we are fighting for the playoff spots, we felt it was important to have a player who can fit into our style of play and bring some fresh air to the squad. Luisma can also improve our numbers from set pieces because of his ability to shoot and cross from dead ball situations.”

The Blues’ boss also reserved a word of praise for outgoing winger Chencho Gyeltshen, who he said has played an important part in the Blues’ campaign so far. “Chencho played a crucial part in our campaign, giving us four points against NorthEast United with his two goals, and has shown a fantastic attitude in training by working hard every time. We will be keeping a note on his progress with NEROCA, because he is a young player who we are sure will improve with each performance,” Cuadrat said.

Luisma is set to wear the number 9 shirt for the Blues, and will be available for selection ahead of Bengaluru’s clash against Kerala Blasters on February 6th.

Mohammedan Sporting interested in Argentine defender

KOLKATA: Former Gokulam Kerala defender Fabricio Ortiz has attracted interest from Mohammedan Sporting Club, who are believed to be keen on adding him to their roster for the ongoing 2018/19 2nd Division League campaign.

The Kolkata-based side is said to have been impressed with what they saw in the centre-back during his stay with Gokulam.

The news of Mohammedan’s interest in the Argentine has been confirmed to IndiaFooty by a source close to the player, who added that Mohammedan is keen to sign the 28-year-old.

“Mohammedan is interested in Fabricio Ortiz. The club was impressed with what they saw from the player during 2018/19 I-League. They have also made a offer to Fabricio. Everything now is left to the player to make a decision,” said the source.

Fabricio was signed by Gokulam at the start of the season but the defender has not turned out to be the player that team management was hoping for and he was released from his contract last month.

Although initial reports suggested Fabricio is on his way to join York 9 FC for the inaugural edition of the Canadian Premier League, it appears like Fabricio may soon found a new home in India.

Mohun Bagan confirm Khalid Jamil as new head coach

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan have confirmed the appointment of Khalid Jamil as the new head coach. He takes over from Sankarlal Chakraborty who resigned yesterday, taking the blame for team’s poor performance in ongoing 2018/19 I-League.

“With immense pleasure we wish to inform you that Mr. Khalid Jamil has been appointed as the new Head Coach of Mohun Bagan Senior Football Team for remainder of 2018-2019 football season.” a club statement read.

With Mohun Bagan in desperate need in a change of fortunes, Jamil could well be the man they will be looking for, as the Mumbaikar will hope to bring his experience to the fore and lead the team to better results.

Nonetheless, his appointment will raise eyebrows. Having guided Aizawl FC to their maiden I-League triumph, Jamil was roped in amid fanfare with a two-year contract by East Bengal last season. However, at the end of the season East Bengal sacked Jamil after he failed to live up to the club’s expectations with one year left on his contract.

Players who serve under Jamil praise him for his technical astuteness and in-depth knowledge of all players in the I-League.

However, the coach’s fiery, many would say erratic, personality, and run-ins with administrators, match officials and sometimes his own players have often been his downfall at clubs.

Jamil’s first assignment will be a home tie against Minerva Punjab on Wednesday.

Khalid Jamil offered coach’s role at Mohun Bagan

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan are understood to be on the verge of appointing Khalid Jamil as their new head coach for the remainder of the season.

Mohun Bagan head coach position became vacant when Sankarlal Chakraboty stepped down yesterday, taking the blame for team’s poor performance in ongoing 2018/19 I-League.

Although there has been no word on this development from Mohun Bagan management, a source close to both parties has informed IndiaFooty that Khalid is in advanced talk with the club and he is interested in making the move.

With Mohun Bagan in desperate need in a change of fortunes, Khalid could well be the man they will be looking for, as the Mumbaikar will hope to bring his experience to the fore and lead the team to better results.

At this point, it remains to be seen whether Khalid, who was previously linked with Mohammedan Sporting Club post, will take on a job in Mohun Bagan, but he is certainly keen on the idea of doing so.

Having spent seven seasons as the head coach of Mumbai FC – and the rest of his coaching career in Aizawl FC and East Bengal, Khalid looks to be eager to expand his horizons by making a move to Kolkata once again if an opportunity presents itself.

Mohammedan Sporting in talks with former East Bengal midfielder

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club are reportedly in talks with former East Bengal midfielder Mahmoud Al Amna for the forthcoming 2018/19 2nd Division League.

A source close to the club has revealed to IndiaFooty that talks are underway between Amna’s representative and Mohammedan Sporting officials about securing his services, however, the club have vowed not to break the bank for the Syrian.

The 35-year-old was recently parted ways with East Bengal by mutual consent after he failed to recover from his injury, sustained during East Bengal’s pre-season in Malaysia and was out of action since the beginning of the 2018/19 I-League. However, it appears like Amna has found a new home in Kolkata.

Although Amna has claimed in a recent interview that he is close to regaining his fitness, we have learnt that to earn a contract at Mohammedan Sporting, he will have to go though a complete medical and physical fitness test.

The Black Panthers have been rather quite in the recent past but reports surfaced that the management have been working silently but tirelessly to beef up the squad. The club have already signed Nigerian striker Eze Stanley from Calcutta Customs.
