Panjim, Goa 11th August 2015: Five time I-League champions Dempo Sports Club, who were relegated to second division last season, silently started the proccess of building their squad for the season ahead. The Mauricio Afonso coached side have finalised the deal with Chika Wali, according to a TOI report the Nigerian defender will complete the paper work in next couple of days and will be club’s first foreign signing in the season.
Chika Wali is a familier name in Goan football, he played for Salgaocar FC under Derrick Pereira in 2013-14 and turned up for Tuff Laxmi Prasad in the Goa Pro League last season, before joining Mumbai FC prior to I-League.
Meanwhile, the club has also signed former Sporting Clube de Goa midfielder Beevan D’Mello, who already started training under Afonso.
After being released by Sporting Clube de Goa earlier this season, Beevan signed up as a free agent for the ISL domestic draft, where he was neglected by the franchises. Thereafter, he attended trials at Salgaocar FC and even managed to find his name among the eight shortlisted players, but he chose to join Dempo.
Meanwhile along with former Kerala Blasters striker Milagres Gonsalves Dempo have also signed a host of players including Amar Halankar (Vasco), Aiken Dias (Vasco), Naveen Mendes (Vasco), Ali Mohammad (Tuff Laxmi Prasad), Steven Fernandes (ONGC).
